Significant Changes to Super Guarantee Payments

SGC to be paid for all employees

From 1 July 2022 employers will be required to make superannuation guarantee contributions (SGCs) for all employees. Currently, SGC is not required to be paid for employees earning less than $450 per month.

This is, obviously, a gain for employees who may have previously not been eligible for employer superannuation contributions. However, together with the SGC rate increasing from 10% to 10.5% this represents a potential cost increase for employers - particularly those that employ significant numbers of casual employees such as restaurants and cafes.
